What does The Venison Advisory Service offer?
VAS will undertake an initial consultancy visit (3 hours) at a rate of £120 + VAT + mileage. From this VAS will provide an outline assessment confirming whether a commercial case exists to establish a deer enterprise. This would be based on a number of factors including size and location, contour, shelter, pasture and grazing, infrastructure, condition of existing fencing, etc.
Following this short report, and if formally instructed, VAS can proceed to an in-depth scoping study looking into the prospect in greater detail: Generally this covers:
- farm layout;
- herd growth forecast;
- management regime;
- necessary development, outlays and options;
- costs, income projections and margins.
Effectively VAS will develop the business case to establish a deer enterprise – a deer farming business plan.
The guideline cost of this full study is usually £1800 + VAT + expenses.
VAS can provide follow up consultancy, if required, to those clients who have commissioned a scoping study as above on the basis of £50/hour (£400/day).
Alternatively, where a full study is not requested, VAS can provide ad hoc consultancy services at a daily rate of £600 + VAT + agreed expenses.
VAS primarily provides advice, consultancy and ‘intellectual services’.
VAS can recommend other qualified businesses and contractors (for example, mapping, surveying, planning, fencing, stock, buildings and construction, product development, etc.) to take projects through from scoping study stage to completion and beyond.
VAS can recommend sources of finance where required.
VAS can also be contracted to project manage establishment of all infrastructure and to provide regular management or advisory visits for deer farm enterprises.
